Is It Worth Buying an Xbox One Right Now?
I just bought an Xbox One. With the recent announcements of the Xbox One S and Project Scorpio, most people have told me I am insane. “Why would you purchase a 500 GB Xbox One when there are two new Xboxes coming out?” one of my friends asked me.
As someone who primarily has played games on PlayStation and Nintendo systems in the past, I have found myself curious about the exclusive games Xbox has to offer. Halo, Gears of War, Fable, along with a lot of other exclusives, are series that I have been itching to play for a while. Now that I have an Xbox One, I finally have the chance to play them.
For the less than 2 weeks I’ve had this console, I have already finished two games off of my “Xbox to-play” list. Quantum Break and Gears of War are the games I have played, and man oh man, I am having such a good time.
Quantum Break was a game I really enjoyed as someone who loves narrative action games. Gears 4 is a game that I think looks really cool, so I wanted to play the first Gears of War. I was pleasantly surprised by the first Gears, and I am really looking forward to playing the rest.
But this is not going to be me reviewing the games I have played on this Xbox though. What I want to address is the fact that I think me buying an Xbox One now, is actually a smart move.
I’m okay with the current system
While I admit, the new sexy Xbox One S is a nice console, I feel no need to get the latest and the greatest version of a device that is not going to be my primary console. Because the Xbox One S releasing in August is limited to the $399 2TB model (The smaller models are being released later), spending less on a 500GB current model is a much more attractive offer for me.
With the upcoming release of the Xbox One S comes the removal of the Kinect port. While there will be an adapter for the use of Kinect released around the time of the Xbox One S, Kinect will essentially be pushed out of the Xbox ecosystem. With my Xbox One, I got a Kinect alongside it. I have been very impressed by the Xbox One’s Kinect from what I have used of it in the past, so I wanted to make sure I got one when I got my console. From using the Kinect with voice commands, I cannot see navigating the system without them. I enjoy it, and getting one of the newer consoles makes using the Kinect harder to do.
It is all about the games
In the long run, I just want to play games. What I play game on does not matter, but when I play them does. I wanted to play Quantum Break and Gears of War now, and didn’t want to wait until the Xbox One S released later this year. There are so many games that are currently available to play right now on Xbox One, so why wait when I could play them right now?
While all of these reasons pertain to my life specifically, it is very possible that someone not in my situation will think differently. But hey, where I am in my life, I am very grateful that I have the chance to play Xbox games now. I love my new Xbox One, and I think now is the best time to get one.
