Persona 5 Launches Valentine’s Day 2017
The illustrious E3 hasn’t officially started yet and we already have gotten a substantive amount of press information from ATLUS regarding the highly anticipated Persona 5. They have announced via press release that Persona 5 will be coming out in North America on February 14, 2017 ( anyone out there whose Valentine is a Persona fan better start pre-ordering now) and will be available for PlayStation 4 in both a standard edition at $59.99 and CA$79.99, a “Take Your Heart” Premium Edition for $89.99 and CA$109.99, and just a standard edition for PlayStation 3 priced at $49.99 and CA$59.99. The game has not yet been rated by the ESRB but is available for pre-order at participating retailers
Persona 5 is a game about the internal and external conflicts of a group of troubled high school students – the protagonist and a collection of compatriots he meets in the game’s story – who live dual lives as Phantom Thieves. They have the typically ordinary day-to-day of a Tokyo high schooler: attending class, after-school activities, and part-time jobs. But they also undertake fantastical adventures by using otherworldly powers to enter the hearts of people. Their power comes from the Persona, the Jungian concept of the “self”; the game’s heroes realize that society forces people to wear masks to protect their inner vulnerabilities, and by literally ripping off their protective mask and confronting their inner selves do the heroes awaken their inner power, and using it to help those in need. Ultimately, the group of Phantom Thieves seeks to change their day-to-day world to match their perception and see through the masks modern society wears.
Of course for the fifth installment in a critically-acclaimed JRPG series, there is a lot to unpack with Persona 5’s “Take Your Heart” Premium Edition with a lot of adorable and substantive goodies. Since the Persona series is notable for its flashy and impressive style, the edition will come with a 64-page hardcover art book from the game, jam-packed with character designs by Shigenori Soejima. They’re also going to include a 4-inch plush figurine of Morgana – a member of the Phantom Thieves and de facto mascot of the group, complete with resplendent bandanna and mask.
As well as being packaged in an official steel book collectible case emblazoned with Persona 5 art, the Premium Edition will also include a soundtrack CD containing a selection of jazz-filled tracks from the game by legendary composer Shoji Meguro.
Here is where the Take Your Heart edition goes above and beyond. Because school life is such a central theme to the Persona series, we’re including a school bag modeled after Japanese-style school bags! It’s full size, and bears the crest of the game’s Shujin Academy!
And because a special edition this massive needs an equally colossal box to contain it all, we’re designing a huge, Persona 5-themed box to hold it all in.
If you enjoy the Persona series at all, there is plenty of reasons to go for it as soon as possible!
